THE AIDS MEMORIAL SCULPTURE IN MIAMI
The AIDS MEMORIAL SCULPTURE in Miami is located in Miami Beach, on the
beach near the visitors' center building. The Memorial is particularly
appropriate in this location: the beach is one site that so many of us
have known and enjoyed at one point or another, and often it is to nature
that we look for comfort.... The large stainless steel structure remains
physically unaffected during all weather conditions but changes in its
own way: it gains symbolic dimensions as it meets harsch hurricanes or
sunny summer days and balmy evenings. In this location the sculpture reminds
us of wonderful moments of the past, provides comfort and strength if needed,
and adds a decorative touch to the beach. The Memorial is easily accessible
by foot from the various hotels in Miami Beach, and works as a magnet to
tourists and locals alike.
