THE AIDS MEMORIAL SCULPTURE IN ANTWERP

The AIDS MEMORIAL SCULPTURE in Antwerp is located in the heart of the old city. It is in the pedestrian zone by the historic large place in front of the "Stadhuis" - as the Belgians lovingly call their City Hall. City Hall is a focal point in the life of all the citys' citizens: this is the place where births are registered, weddings are celebrated and deaths are reported.... Due to its rich history, its social importance and its romantic and picturesque beauty the site on which the AIDS Memorial Sculpture of Antwerp is located is a major point of attraction to both tourists and permanent residents. Even though the old city of Antwerp often is highly visited, the location of the Sculpture is a very natural one: people on quick errands or hurried visits as well as people lingering and enjoying their moments of vacation take time to remember those we have lost to AIDS.
